May 2022

Lots happening on Lakeshore as we enter what looks to be a beautiful and sunny May! We begin May in jubilant form having the Lakeshore Easter Parade back and looking good thanks to a major Earthday Clean Up coordinated by Councilmember Bas and neighborhood groups (including the Lakeshore BID, Grand Lake Neighbors and Lakeshore Homes).

Not missing a beat, May is starting with International Workers Day, Cocktail week and, as always, something for everyone for Mother’s Day and beyond. Read all about it!

Cocktail Week

Cocktail Week is back May 2-8! Celebrate Oakland’s unique cocktail heritage in style! Starting with a Bourbon Walk and Dine for Justice on 5/2, Cocktail week has events every night this week. Check out the Sequoia Happy Hour at The Cathouse on 5/4. Other awesome Lakeshore cocktails to be found this week are at Bardo Lounge and Supper Club, CAÑA and Shakewell.

Mother’s Day

Gratitude to Seth Bregman’s parents. His mother’s style is a big influence on Bardo’s decor today.

May 8th is Mother’s Day and Lakeshore is ready! Urban Indigo has beautiful cards and jewelry, Bay-Made carries gorgeous flowers and makes locally made gift baskets that delight the senses. Find a gem or perfect outfit at Maribel or buy a gift card for fitness at Hipline, the Oakland Bar Method or Arise Yoga. Find fun activities for the whole family at Silver Moon Kids.

Arizmendi has their famous sweets and treats. Scrumptious brunch at Lakeshore Cafe and Shakewell or dinner with fine wine or cocktails from Shakewell and Bardo Lounge and Supper Club. There is something for everyone and every Mom on Lakeshore. Love Mom and Shop Local on Lakeshore Avenue!

Lakeshore Easter Parade

We are beyond thrilled to have had the Easter Parade return this year on 4/16!

The Easter Bunny started with meets and greets at Lakeshore Baptist Church and the parade made its way down Lakeshore. The weather, which had looked iffy, cooperated and our beloved parade had a safe and wonderous comeback!

Lakehore went all out with Hot Cross Buns at Arizmendi, locally made chocolate bunnies at Bay-Made, Easter cakes at Merritt Bakery and, of course, brunch!

Passover on Lakeshore

Passover began on 4/15 and delicious food for the sedar was avaiable at Proposition Chicken and Arizmendi with Chocolate dipped coconut macaroons. Yum!

Lakeshore Earthday Cleanup

A huge shout out to Councilmember Bas and her team who coordinated four community clean-ups from Lakeshore to Grand Lake to Eastlake and Chinatown! Hundreds of volunteers turned out for all events — students, parents, elders, and the community.

Activities included picking up trash, weeding, gardening, and reporting maintenance needs to Oak311!

A BIG thanks and special shoutout to Grand Lake Neighbors, Grand Avenue Business Association, Lakeshore Homes Association, Splash Pad Park volunteers, and ALL of our volunteers. The love and attention you gave Lakeshore Ave and the surrounding areas shows!

Welcome Oakanna

Welcome Oakanna! Oakanna is proudly owned and operated by people who are from and live in Oakland. They offer the highest quality cannabis, the best selection, and the fairest pricing in East Bay. Oakanna is at 3238 Lakeshore Ave (where the old CVS was) and the owner, Joshua Chase, looks forward to supporting Lakeshore Avenue and the community.

International Workers Day

May 1st is International Workers Day! Some businesses like Arizmendi and Shakewell will be closed in honor of their workers and the hard work that every employee has to put into a business to make it run and succeed. As we know, during COVID and beyond, the challenges have increased and not eased up for most. International Workers Day is a reminder to appreciate the hard work of workers on Lakeshore Ave, Lake Park Ave and everywhere today and all year long.
