Sunshine, Shop, and Social

Hipline hosted an outdoor Sunshine, Shop, and Social on August 13th. This social gave exposure to local entrepreneurs and reminded us of all the exquisite talent and diversity we have of art, food, jewelry, and more. The vibe, crowd, and vendors were delightful, showing what a fantastic and supportive community we have around in our neighborhood and how good Hipline is at cultivating community.

Holly Deck helped open Shakewell 8 years ago and has been in the role of Chef de Cuisine from it’s beginning. In fact, Shakewell gives kudos to Holly for being the real force behind their starting a brunch program (and thank for their winning Best Brunch in Oakland!!). Big news: Holly Deck is now the Executive Chef of Shakewell! Congrats, Holly!

Proposition Chicken makes fresh dishes daily and constantly adds to its menu. They make sure we know they could not do this without their amazing staff. This is a behind-the-scenes picture of their staff that they are so grateful for (and we are too)!

How fun is it to come to work to dress up and play with toys? The staff at Silver Moon Kids create an amazing store and customer experience. They are pros at their work and care about their customers. They also make time to have fun while demonstrating their merchandise!

Giving Back

Proposition Kitchen

Proposition Chicken’s Non-profit Monday donates 10% of all their dine-in sales to a different non-profit partner each month. This month’s non-profit partner is the Alameda Boys and Girls Club.

The Alameda Boys & Girls Club is more than just a place for recreation. It provides activities and experiences that enrich the lives of young people in the community. They involve young boys and girls in wholesome activities that build their self-esteem and self-worth and teach the values of responsibility and respect. This means paying sustained attention to the changing needs of today’s youth and giving every youth the chance they deserve to have a great future by providing the tools and support they need to achieve their dreams.

The Cat House Monthly Monday Fundraiser

The Cat House has started Monthly Monday Fundraisers!

The inaugural Monthly Monday Fundraiser was a fundraiser for Fentcheck. Fentcheck is a locally-founded nonprofit that stocks public venues with fentanyl test strips and narcan. The Cat House does NOT encourage the use of drugs in their establishment or anywhere. However, these are important tools to help combat the overwhelming wave of deaths caused by accidental fentanyl overdose and they want to help save lives.

Grand Lake Farmers Market

AIM runs the Grand Lake Farmers Market and is now accepting applications for the Racial Equity Fund is now open for applications (REF). REF is a grant to support new Black and Brown business owners getting their start at AIM Farmers Markets:

“The Farmers Market does not fully reflect the diversity of our food producer and farming communities, in part because the start-up costs of joining the market can create a critical barrier-to-entry.  This fund strives to reduce financial barriers to entry, by specifically supporting Black and Brown farmers, food producers, and artisans who are getting started at AIM’s farmers markets.”

What the REF offers:
AIM farmers market annual registration fee ($150)
• Free stall fees for six months at one of AIM’s farmers’ markets (10×10 booth, approx. $1,300)
• A $1,000 stipend for any market-related costs, such as: tents, booth signage, online marketing, organic certification(s), health department fees and other critical but sometimes hidden costs of starting and expanding a food-related business
• Mentorship with an established farmers market participant or Small Business Development Center advisor, if desired.

So much to enjoy on Lakeshore in September (and always)!
