Lakeshore December Happenings

The holiday season opened on Lakeshore with Thanksgiving, Plaid Friday, Small Business Saturday and, on December 12, we will have Lakeshore’s Shop, Stroll and Dine. We are eager to support local businesses, give back and engage the community. Keep your eye out for even more events, such as Hipline’s Holiday Bazaar on December 15th or Bay-Made’s classes such as Family Ornament Night or Kids Holiday Craft Party!

As the year comes to an end, we are looking at the accomplishments, community engagement and fun facts about Lakeshore. It has been an exciting year and with so much to report on our community, we are inspired and eager to see what next year will bring.

Lakeshore’s Shop, Stroll and Dine – 12/12

Lakeshore’s Shop, Stroll and Dine is an enchanting winter evening featuring carolers, merchant specials (and extended hours), a raffle with wondrous local goodies, gift baskets and more!  Discover gift ideas, savor gourmet seasonal cuisine and festive cocktails and enjoy a fun and relaxing evening stroll. Lakeshore’s Shop, Stroll and Dine is a fun, celebratory event to support local businesses and give back to the community with a Giving Back fundraiser and food drive for the Alameda County Community Food Bank. There will be a raffle with local prizes for participants who support local businesses or the Lakeshore Giving Back fundraiser. Stroll hours are 5-8 pm. Lakeshore Giving Back

In the spirit of Giving Back, many Lakeshore merchants and organizations give back to the community in so many ways. A few examples:

Hipline has fundraisers for non-profits and raised over $25,000 for MISSSEY this year!

Proposition Chicken donates 10% of all dine-in sales to a different non-profit partner each month. This month’s non-profit partner is the David E. Glover Education and Technology Center.

Heart and Dagger Saloon volunteered at City Team OAKLAND last month prepping meals and bag lunches for those in need as part of Jack Daniels month of giving. Portions of sales of all Jack Daniels were also donated through November!

Namaste Yoga has benefit classes where proceeds are donated to support community organizations; this month they had a Thanksgiving class where proceeds went to the Alameda County Community Food Bank (also kicking off Lakeshore’s ACCFB fundraiser!)

Shakewell supported the LGBTQ fundraiser during Oakland Pride weekend (and the lucky winners received a scrumptious meal)! Each year Jen Biesty and Tim Nugent work to ensure that the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center truly sees the support their community has for them.️‍

The Oakland LBGTQ Community Center does so much for the community. Just this Thanksgiving they hosted FREE full-courses with movies, music, games, and good company! Tim Nugent of Shakewell was a dynamite volunteer for this wonderful Thanksgiving dinner.

Accolades: Community Engagement

The Lakeshore Business Improvement District (BID) is proud to sponsor events that engage the community and local businesses. The annual Hat Derby and Easter Egg Decorating celebration and parade is made special by supportive Lakeshore merchants and a wonderful community. Our annual Halloween Parade is a delight to the participants and merchants help create the wonder. The Lakeshore Shop, Stroll and Dine is to promote Lakeshore and Lakeshore local businesses in an enchanting manner while also giving back to the community.

Have you noticed the gardening on Lakeshore lately? A big shout out goes to Abebe for helping with the gardening and keeping Lakeshore looking good. The Lakeshore BID is proud to be able to support Abebe’s gardening work (even above and beyond his Lakeshore security work). Thank you Abebe!
