November Happenings

Gateway to the Holidays is Here!

Plaid Friday and the Oakland Holiday Campaign on Lakeshore (November 23-27)! Be sure to stay tuned and see what specials and treats these participants have for you the weekend after Thanksgiving:

Plaid Friday was conceived from the idea of weaving the individual threads of small businesses together to create a strong fabric that celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses. Plaid Friday is the relaxing and enjoyable way to shop the weekend after Thanksgiving and is designed to be a gateway to promote both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays. Conceptualized in Oakland, Plaid Friday strives to bring back the days when shopping for friends and family during the holidays was a pleasurable and leisurely activity.

FANTASTIC HALLOWEEN PARADE

Thank you to all merchants who showed delightful Halloween spirit and made the Lakeshore Halloween Parade a fantastic success! Most merchants gave trick or treaters candy and some more treats: Arizmendi gave out Chocolate Cookies (yum!), Dress Best for Less gave out toys and books and Bay Made gave out stickers.

We had more than over 20 businesses participate with delighted children and families.  See the highlights below and more pictures on Facebook (click here).

A HUGE Thanks to our Security Guard, Abebe, for leading the parade and boosting our merchants!

Notable Happenings:

The intersection of Trestle Glen and Lakeshore

A huge thank you to  Steve Kopff, Alex Montgomery Preston and the volunteers who have totally transformed the intersection.

Trestle Glen resident, Steve Kopff and his co-organizer, Alex Montgomery have transformed the intersection of Trestle Glen and Lakeshore with help from their incredible volunteers.

Earlier this year, Tyrone Mack, the custodian/gardener at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church, cleared the vegetation and pruned the maple tree that obstructed the vision of drivers turning right onto Lakeshore. This made it possible for Steve and Alex to work on the Trestle Glen median.  Partly inspired by the new landscaping across the street in front of Bardo Lounge and Supper Club, they set to work. Their plant selection was made in consultation with Tora Rocha, the recently retired Oakland Parks Supervisor and the founder the Pollinator Posse

The median is lovely and nearly complete but Steve and Alex have already set their sights at other locations on Lakeshore for which they’d welcome additional volunteers.  More details are available in THIS ARTICLE and  THIS MESSAGE.
