Join us for the Lakeshore Holiday Stroll on 12/16!

November 2022

Halloween and Halloween weekend were festive on Lakeshore and Lake Park Ave! See how Lakeshore celebrated from the Annual Parade, parties, treats, and swag. Big news for the Avenue: 1) Lakeshore Cafe celebrated its 20th anniversary and, in celebration, has overhauled its menu (yum!). 2) The owners of Bardo Lounge and Supper Club have bought Sidebar. 3) Hipline has grown to have classes in-person and online. Now, they have an online boutique with cool swag and stylish clothes. Giving Back: Proposition Chicken and the Oakland LBGTQ Center are giving back to the community with efforts to community food security and education. Read all about it!

Annual Halloween Parade!

Lakeshore’s annual Halloween Parade was delightful and a success! Eager trick-or-treaters in creative costumes visited participating businesses in the morning and returned to Lakeshore Baptist Church for goodie bags and lunch. It was great fun for all (younger and older) and a wonderful way for local business and community engagement. Thank you to Lakeshore Baptist Church, participating businesses, and all the committed volunteers for making this happen!

Halloween Happenings on Lakeshore

The Halloween spirit is celebrated well on Lakeshore with themed treats and events for everyone. In addition to the Halloween parade, The Cathouse had a dazzling Halloween Dance party on Halloween weekend, and Heart and Dagger Saloon had a Halloween Bash on 10/31. Arizmendi, Bay-Made, and Unleashed had ghoulish and fun treats (for kids, adults, and pets) and great costumes are still available at Silver Moon Kids and Unleashed (if you want to start planning for next year).

News on the Avenue

Lakeshore Cafe’s 20th Anniversary and Menu Overhaul!

Congratulations to Lakeshore Cafe on its 20th anniversary! It is a huge milestone, and in celebration of this milestone, they are doing a remodeling and a menu overhaul. Please support the Lakeshore Cafe and check out their new menu this month. They will be re-opening this week, and we cannot wait to see (and enjoy) their new menu!

Bardo Owners Buy Sidebar

Congrats to Bardo owners Seth and Jenni Bregman on taking ownership of Sidebar at 542 Grand Ave. The expansion is covered in this Eater San Francisco article . As explained in the article, the Bregmans “weren’t necessarily looking to take on another restaurant. But when they found out their friends and neighbors Mark Drazek and Barbara Mulas of Sidebar had plans to retire after 30 years in the restaurant industry, they knew they had to act”. The Mulas and Bergmans say the transition in ownership has been smooth because they share a similar perspective about the neighborhood and restaurant, making the Bermans “ideal stewards.”

Hipline Boutique

Hipline has grown to have classes in-person and online. Now, they have an online boutique with cool swag and stylish clothes to wear for a great workout or a casual day out. Check out their accessories, tops, and bottoms to get gear for a fashionable workout or day on the town.

Nonprofit Monday: Proposition Chicken Gives Back Supporting the Oakland Urban Farming Project

Dine-in on Mondays at Proposition Chicken in November, and 10% of their profits will go to the Oakland Urban Farming Project (OUFP). OUFP builds community through farming, beautification, and education. Their volunteer program creates a greater sense of community and a stronger connection to the Earth for our volunteers. Their volunteer days teach practical farming and gardening skills like mulching, composting, planting techniques, and garden maintenance. Their food pantry was initially put in place during the pandemic and is now here to stay as a place for the community to either donate and/or take what they need daily.

Oakland LBGTQ Center Food Pantry

The Oakland LBGTQ Center is committed to offering access to their food pantry for individuals who are without food in a dignified manner. All one has to do is sign in, and they are allowed access to their pantry. Please be considerate as they do not have a large pantry that allows larger amounts of food to be taken, although we do make exceptions for families. Drop-in hours are between 1pm-5pm, Monday thru Friday to shop.

There are pantry volunteer opportunities for people to help pick up food for the Oakland LBGTQ Center from Alameda County Food Bank or help stock and maintain our pantry shelves. If you would like to use the food pantry or volunteer to for it, please get in touch with Donte Washington at  donte@oaklandlgbtqcenter.org.
