Big Happenings on Lakeshore

Join Us for Lakeshore’s Safety Day Event – June 21!

Mark your calendars! The Lakeshore Avenue Business Improvement District (LABID) is thrilled to host a Community Safety Event at The Gap on Friday, June 21 from 11 AM to 1 PM — and you’re invited!

This family-friendly event will be packed with fun, connection, and community spirit. Bring the kids for engaging activities and to meet our local police and fire departments, who will be on hand to share safety tips and show off their equipment.

We’re especially excited to welcome our new City Councilmember, Charlene Wang, for a special meet-and-greet. This is a great chance to connect directly with your elected representative and learn more about her vision for our district.

While you’re here, explore the vibrant shops along Lakeshore Avenue, enjoy a delicious meal at one of our fantastic restaurants, and experience everything that makes our neighborhood so special. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to the area, there’s something for everyone at this event.

LABID Annual Meeting – June 23 at 3:30 PM

We also invite you to join us for our Annual LABID Meeting on Monday, June 23 at 3:30 PM at the Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church.

Come meet the nominated board candidates for the 2025–2026 term, hear about the initiatives we’ve tackled this past year, and learn what’s in store for the future of Lakeshore Avenue. This is your chance to ask questions, provide feedback, and take part in shaping our neighborhood’s growth.

All members of the community are welcome — whether you’re a business owner, resident, or simply someone who loves Lakeshore. Let’s keep working together to make our district vibrant, safe, and welcoming for all.

We can’t wait to see you there!

Call To Action for LGTBQ+ Center

The Oakland LGBTQ Center is a lifeline for so many in our community, providing youth and elder support services, trans services, medical care, housing assistance, mental health services, and support to community members struggling with addiction. Now, that lifeline is under threat.

A recent notice from the LGBTQ Center states: “Since December 2024, we have seen a steep drop in individual and corporate donor support and in April 2025, the current administration abruptly cut a $600k grant that we were awarded with very little notice. Other federal funding that we currently receive for programs to prevent HIV among youth and low-income people of color hang in the balance. In fact, our ability to apply for federal grants has been severely diminished just because the administration refuses to acknowledge trans and queer identities.

We can’t let that happen. Please donate and protect a place that protects us all.
