Oaktown PROUD is a local initiative dedicated to reducing illegal dumping and enhancing Oakland neighborhoods. Through this campaign, you can #BeOaktownPROUD by reporting unlawful dumping, requesting city services, and volunteering to help keep Oakland clean!

  • Travel in groups, or choose well-lit streets if walking alone at night.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings—keep your head up, eyes open, and phone down.
  • Never leave personal items unattended, especially on chairs.
  • Carry belongings in front of you, closer to your body.
  • Trust your instincts: if something feels off, leave and find a safe location nearby.
  • For parking, secure garages are recommended. Remove valuables from your vehicle and avoid leaving any visible items.

Help Oakland Police (OPD) in their investigations by registering your home security cameras. This is especially useful for cameras with good night resolution or license plate readers. Information from cameras can be shared across cities, assisting in investigations.

The Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland (MACRO) Program provides an alternative to police response for non-emergency “quality of life” calls, including mental health crises.
