February on Lakeshore: Clean Streets and Community Love

Here is the newly cleaned sidewalk in front of IBs and TMobile
In front of Lin Jia, you can see which part of the sidewalk has been cleaned (left).
Same for in front of Crazy Block Cheesecake; here, the clean side is on the right.

Recently, Lakeshore Avenue received a much-needed refresh thanks to a sidewalk cleaning partnership with District Works. This effort was no small task. Years of deferred maintenance and long-term neglect by the city left the sidewalks in need of significant attention and care.

The results speak for themselves. The Avenue looks cleaner and brighter than it has in years, creating a more welcoming experience for pedestrians, shoppers, and business owners alike. We’re incredibly proud of what was accomplished and grateful to District Works for their collaboration on this massive undertaking.

Looking ahead, we’re exploring ways to make sidewalk cleaning a quarterly — or even monthly — initiative. Stay tuned this spring for details on a fundraising campaign that will allow the community to contribute directly to keeping Lakeshore Avenue clean, safe, and vibrant year-round.

Save the Date: Grand Lake Shines Neighborhood Clean Up – February 28

Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 28, when we partner with the LGBTQ Center and the Grand Ave. Merchants Association to host our next Grand Lake Shines Neighborhood Clean Up. This event builds on the overwhelming success of our previous cleanup. The response was so strong that we’ve committed to making Grand Lake Shines a quarterly event.

Volunteers will help clear trash, do light gardening throughout the district, and paint over graffiti to keep the Lakeshore Avenue neighborhood looking its best. Keep an eye on our social media channels for details on how to join us — more information coming soon.

Lakeshore Love Is in Full Swing 💗

Our winter promotion, Lakeshore Love, is well underway — and there are still two more weeks to participate.

From January 15 through February 14, shoppers who spend $25 or more at any Lakeshore Avenue business can submit their receipt for a chance to win a $250 gift certificate to the Lakeshore business of their choice. What started as a simple way to support businesses during a slower season has quickly become something much bigger.

A Reason to Get Out and Explore

Lakeshore Love has encouraged neighbors to walk the Avenue, explore new shops, and rediscover businesses they may have passed by before. We’ve heard from longtime residents who stopped into a new boutique, tried a café for the first time, or turned a quick errand into a full afternoon on Lakeshore.

Inboxes Full of Enthusiasm

Our inbox has been filled not just with receipt submissions, but with messages of encouragement and appreciation. Families shopping together, neighbors visiting multiple businesses in one day, and community members expressing gratitude for a promotion that feels simple, fair, and focused on local impact.

Each receipt submission has become a small but meaningful way to say, “I showed up for my neighborhood.”

A Boost for Businesses — and for Community

Merchants have shared that customers are mentioning Lakeshore Love at checkout, asking about nearby businesses, and returning more frequently. The campaign encourages shared momentum along the Avenue, strengthening the district as a whole rather than one business at a time.

More than a giveaway, Lakeshore Love is a reminder that shopping local keeps our community connected and our neighborhood thriving.

Join Us: Next Lakeshore BID Meeting – February 9

Our next Lakeshore BID meeting will take place on February 9 at 10:00 am at Lakeshore Baptist Church, with a Zoom option available.

If you’d like to attend virtually, please email racheal@lakeshoreavenue.com to receive the Zoom link. We welcome business owners, property owners, and community members who want to stay engaged and informed about what’s happening on the Avenue.
