August has brought warmer days, the return of school, and a flurry of activity here on Lakeshore Avenue. As summer begins to wind down, there is plenty happening in our neighborhood and plenty to look forward to in the months ahead.
A Little Lakeshore Love
Many of you have noticed the changes happening at the former GAP location. While we’re certainly sad to see the wood go up around the building, we’re excited to have the Lakeshore Love mural temporarily bringing some color and community spirit to the space.
The mural is a reminder that even during periods of transition, Lakeshore continues to be a place filled with creativity, character, and, of course, a whole lot of love.
The property owners are currently looking for the perfect fit for what comes next at this location. If you are interested in being connected with the owners, or if you know of a business that you think would be a great match for this space, please reach out to us. We would be happy to make the connection.
We’re excited to see what the next chapter brings!

Supporting Our Unhoused Neighbors
We have also seen an increase in the number of unhoused individuals spending time on Lakeshore Avenue. We know this can be challenging for our businesses, residents, and visitors, and we also recognize that every person experiencing homelessness has a story and deserves dignity and compassion.
As a community, we are asking that, when possible, you consider supporting organizations that can provide meaningful, ongoing assistance rather than giving money directly to individuals on the Avenue.
One organization we encourage our Lakeshore community to support is the Oakland LGBTQ Center. The Center works with a network of agencies and community partners to connect people with resources including rental and housing assistance, mental health support, food pantries, Narcotics Anonymous, and other essential services.
Our goal is to help connect people with quality resources that can make a difference beyond today. A meal or a few dollars may help someone in the moment, but connecting them with housing assistance, food resources, mental health services, and other support can potentially help create a much more lasting impact.
We believe a strong community looks out for everyone, and we are committed to finding compassionate, constructive ways to support both our unhoused neighbors and the Lakeshore businesses and residents who call this neighborhood home.
