As we enter the new year, we’re excited to share the progress made by the Lakeshore Avenue Business Improvement District (LABID) over the past couple of months. Here’s a recap of recent efforts to keep the Lakeshore District safe, clean, and vibrant, along with some exciting announcements from local businesses!
Tree Trimming for Safety
In December, LABID partnered with property owners to address hazardous trees along Lakeshore Avenue. Trees with the most pressing safety concerns were trimmed before the winter rains arrived, and we’ve scheduled additional maintenance in February to complete the project district-wide.
Parking Garage Improvements
At our December board meeting, the LABID board approved several projects to improve the parking garage (behind the Trader Joe’s and Walgreens lot) and surrounding areas:
- $20,000 was allocated for elevator repairs.
- $8,000 went toward deep cleaning the garage walls and stairwells, and pigeon deterrents were installed to reduce the mess from bird droppings.
- $4,000 was designated for additional sidewalk cleanings throughout the district.
We also partnered with District 2 leadership to secure two annual city-funded sidewalk cleanings, which will supplement LABID’s monthly steam cleaning services.
Upcoming Lighting Enhancements
Looking ahead, the board plans to work with building owners to improve lighting throughout the district, making Lakeshore Avenue safer and more welcoming at night. We hope to tackle this exciting project in the coming year.
