Celebrating Community, Shaping the Future: Lakeshore Spring Festival 2026 & What’s Next

The Lakeshore Spring Festival 2026

The Lakeshore Spring Festival marked a historic milestone for the Lakeshore/Grand Lake District, serving as the first street festival held in the neighborhood in 18 years. The event successfully brought together residents, visitors, artists, performers, community organizations, and local businesses for a vibrant day celebrating Oakland’s culture, creativity, and community spirit. Throughout the festival, thousands of attendees enjoyed live entertainment, art activations, community engagement opportunities, shopping, dining, and family-friendly activities. The event reintroduced many visitors to the Lakeshore business district while welcoming new guests who had never previously experienced the neighborhood.

A major highlight of the festival was the incredible energy and enthusiasm shared by the community throughout the day. The Main Stage served as the heart of the celebration, featuring an impressive lineup of performances that kept attendees dancing, singing, and gathering together. The event kicked off with Osada 3, whose genre-bending sound brought a fresh and engaging energy to the stage.Rumbaché brought the energy with a standout performance, filling the festival with their dynamic blend of salsa, timba, and Cuban-inspired rhythms.Bay Area favorites LA GENTE SF followed with their signature fusion of cumbia, reggae, salsa, hip-hop, and reggaeton, drawing crowds to their feet and creating one of the day’s most vibrant moments. Closing out the evening, The Futurelics delivered an unforgettable finale, showcasing their powerful mix of funk, jazz, blues, house, and Afro-Latin influences that had festival-goers dancing until the very end.

Beyond the Main Stage, festival attendees found opportunities to connect, create, relax, and celebrate throughout the district. Community activations included a free Mini Shimmy Pop Dance Class presented by Hipline Dance, complimentary morning and afternoon yoga sessions hosted by Arise Yoga, and captivating Circus Arts & Theater performances by Prescott Circus. Families enjoyed interactive experiences, while pet owners were welcomed at the Doggy Hydration Station hosted by Unleashed by Petco. With around 120 vendors to shop at there was something for everyone to enjoy on this epic day.

The festival also featured powerful artistic and cultural contributions from Kin Folkz of Spectrum Queer Media and the Queer Healing Arts Center. Through visual art, storytelling, and community-centered programming, attendees experienced creative expressions focused on healing, inclusion, and cultural celebration. Additional community activations included the House of Culture and Creativity Experience led by Meeka Starr, whose work in fashion, culture, and community engagement added another layer of creativity and representation to the event.

Professional photography by Najee Tobin beautifully documented the event, capturing authentic moments of connection, celebration, and community pride that will serve as lasting reminders of Most importantly, the Lakeshore Spring Festival achieved its core objective: driving visitors into the district and highlighting the incredible businesses that make Lakeshore Avenue a unique destination. The event strengthened relationships among businesses, community organizations, residents, and visitors while generating excitement for future programming in the district.

The festival’s success also garnered significant media attention, with coverage appearing on KTVU Channel 2, KRON 4, and Oaklandside, helping showcase Lakeshore Avenue and Oakland’s vibrant community spirit to audiences throughout the Bay Area.

The Lakeshore Spring Festival demonstrated the power of community-driven events to activate public space, support local businesses, celebrate culture, and foster meaningful connections. Based on the overwhelmingly positive response from attendees, merchants, performers, and community partners, the festival established a strong foundation for what we hope will become an annual tradition in the Lakeshore District.

Lakeshore Community Survey Input Update:

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen and revitalize the district, LABID recently gathered community input through our Lakeshore Feedback Survey focused on vacant storefronts and future business recruitment. We received over 70 responses from residents, business owners, and visitors, and the feedback was clear and overwhelmingly consistent. Most respondents expressed a strong desire for family-friendly venues that can host birthday parties, game nights, and other community gatherings similar to what Plank once offered Downtown. Many also shared interest in seeing a multi-use destination building, comparable to San Francisco’s Ferry Building or the Castro Valley Marketplace, where people can shop, dine, gather, and enjoy a variety of experiences in one place. In addition, an old-fashioned pizza parlor or ice cream parlor was mentioned as something that would be especially well received and help create a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere.

The survey results will help guide LABID’s economic development efforts as we continue working toward our goal of filling every vacant storefront in the district. More importantly, the feedback reinforced what we already know—our community is deeply invested in the future of Lakeshore Avenue and willing to play an active role in shaping what comes next.

Summer Sips, Coming July 15th

Building on the momentum of the Lakeshore Spring Festival, LABID is excited to announce the upcoming seasonal activation, Summer Sips, designed to keep the energy going throughout the warmer months while encouraging residents and visitors to continue exploring the district’s restaurants, bars, and cafés.

Summer Sips will be a district-wide promotional experience celebrating Lakeshore Avenue’s vibrant food and beverage scene. Participating businesses will feature specialty summer-inspired drinks, small bites, and curated offerings that highlight the unique character of each establishment. The program is intended to drive foot traffic during peak summer season, support local merchants, and create a fun, walkable experience for the community.

In addition to special offerings, Summer Sips will include interactive elements such as passport-style participation, giveaways, and social media engagement opportunities that encourage guests to visit multiple locations throughout the district. More details, including participating businesses, dates, and activation components, will be announced soon.

Lakeshore Avenue Business Improvement District 2026 and Beyond:

That spirit of community engagement was also evident at LABID’s 2026 Annual Stakeholder Meeting, where property owners, merchants, residents, and community partners gathered to reflect on the past year and discuss priorities for the future. A particularly meaningful moment during the meeting was the implementation of Barry Gilbert as President Emeritus, recognizing his decades of leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to the Lakeshore Avenue Business Improvement District. Barry’s vision and dedication have helped shape the district into the vibrant community it is today, and we are honored to celebrate his lasting legacy.

The meeting also welcomed representatives from the Mayor’s Office, the City of Oakland’s Economic & Workforce Development Department, and Councilmember Charlene Wang’s office, who provided updates on city initiatives, economic development opportunities, and resources available to support local businesses and commercial corridors. Their participation highlighted the importance of continued collaboration between community stakeholders and local government as we work together to strengthen the district.

As we look ahead, LABID remains committed to creating a cleaner, safer, and more vibrant Lakeshore Avenue through events, beautification efforts, economic development initiatives, and community partnerships. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey, attended the annual meeting, volunteered at an event, supported a local business, or contributed to the district in any way. Your involvement continues to shape the future of Lakeshore Avenue, and we look forward to building that future together.
