July 2019

Lakeshore Avenue shined in June with its support for the community, collaboration and giving back. Several Lakeshore merchants showed their support for LGBTQ Pride month, gave and fundraised for local non-profits, greater neighborhood stewardship and collaborated with each other. Bay-Made is expanding to include classes for kids and Hipline is expanding to include Team Building. It was an energetic June, read all about it as we head into the lovely, long days of summer.

Alameda County Public Defender’s Office Donates to Oakland LGBTQ Community Center

A huge shout out to Shauna Madison and the Dublin branch of the Alameda County Public Defender’s Office for donating food to the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center‘s community pantry!

Oakland LGBTQ Community Center is a nonprofit on Lakeshore Ave and donations help them create a welcoming safe space for LGBTQ individuals, youth, seniors and families here in Oakland for generations to come.

Lakeshore Merchants Support the New Grand/Walker Mural

In the spirit of supporting our neighboring community, two Lakeshore merchants donated to help create the new Grand/Walker mural. A big shoutout to Marcia Lam, owner of Lin Jia Kitchen and to Ken Betts, a longtime Lakeshore BID member and owner of Ken Betts Towing and Chevron Gas Station for their donations. Chase Bank on Lakeshore created a free account and processed all the cash donations to help make this project achievable.

The muralist, Stefen, is a local artist who recently painted the mural in the Trader Joe’s parking lot on Lakeshore, as well as many others in the East Bay.
