May comes on the end of a festive April that was filled with Spring celebrations (and Alvin Easter Bunny), the honor of having nine Lakeshore businesses voted Best of Oakland and the East Bay by Readers Choice in Oakland Magazine and our newest addition, Rico Rico Taco, having a fabulous feature in the San Francisco Chronicle plus anniversaries and weddings — all right here on Lakeshore!

On April 20, we had a fantastical Easter Parade with a Hat Derby, Alvin the Easter Bunny and a delightful Easter parade.  Thank you Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas for joining us and all of the merchants and community that supported us!

GIVING BACK:

Hipline’s Shimmy Pop-A-Thon Launch Party is May 4 from 7-9 pm

Music, refreshments, dancing and rallying together to kick off the annual Hipline’s Shimmy Pop-A-Thon fundraiser in support of MISSSEY (Motivating, Inspiring, Supporting & Serving Exploited Youth). You will get an exclusive audience with MISSSEY leadership and expert support to set up your fundraising page. Last year $20,000 was raised, this year’s goal is $25,000. MISSSEY is a community based 501c3 nonprofit that works with other organizations to raise awareness about this terrible epidemic.

Proposition Chicken Non-Profit Monday is giving back to Beat Rhymes and Life in Oakland, CA. Beat Rhymes and Life utilizes Hip Hop Therapy for individual, community and systemic change. They cultivate dynamic, culturally responsive services, through community engagement and the therapeutic power of Hip Hop, that inspire youth to recognize their own capacity for healing and self-expression. Proposition Chicken donated 10% of all April Monday dine-in sales to Beat Rhymes and Life in April.

Anniversaries and Weddings

CANA celebrated their 8th Anniversary with on April 28th.  A huge accomplishment and we love their Cuban brunch, Mojitos and Sunday Fundays. Congrats Cana and we hope to join you for many more!

Justice Mental Illness

Justice Jam on Mental Illness is Wednesday, May 15, 6:30 – 8:00 pm at Lakeshore Avenue Baptist Church (3534 Lakeshore)

Open and Free to All: Come learn about Mental Illness: myths, truths, and challenges of our medical systems; how to navigate care; and advocate for loved ones.
