Hats off to the Oakland Public Works Department who are in the process of removing all the blighted news racks in the Grand Lake district. This is in response to ongoing complaints from residents and business owners. This situation exists because times are changing and the public is ever less likely to get their news in print. In addition, the newspaper distributors have been plagued by a constant stream of break-ins that damaged the boxes and continuing repairs eventually became financially untenable.
