July 2021

June was a busy and eventful month on Lakeshore and Lake Park Aves. The economy re-opened in Oakland so businesses can open to full capacity as their resources (and local support) allow. Lakeshore and Lake Park Aves have gotten busier through Father’s Day, PRIDE, and in anticipation of summer. On June 27th, we had a neighborly and productive community clean-up day. Lakeshore is headed into summer with a pep in its step and it shows, see for yourself on the Avenue!

A huge Thank You to everyone who volunteered for the Lakeshore and Grand Aves Community Clean Up on Sunday, June 27th. Over 50 people helped clean up Lakeshore and Lake Park Aves, Grand Ave, and Splash Pad Park. It had such a tremendously positive impact and was such a great event, we may begin doing them quarterly!

Community volunteers are rockstars and we had a drawing that rewarded some lucky volunteers. Among the prizes won were gift cards to Rico Rico Taco, Bay-Made, The Cat House Bar, Flipside and Cana from the Lakeshore BID. You can also see the emergency backpack prizes donated from Grand Lake Neighbors. We thank Colonial Donuts for the delicious donut hole donations for volunteers!

The Clean Up Event was a collaboration between the Lakeshore Bid, Councilmember Nikki Fortunato Bas’s office, Grand Lake Neighbors and Lakeshore Homes Association.

We Are Open!

June was a big month, the California economy re-opened on June 15th. This means that all restaurants and stores may have the regular number of customers inside again. Businesses are taking precautions, some have rules to wear masks inside, some dining establishments and bars are maximizing their outdoor space and parklets, like Heart and Dagger Saloon, The Cat House Bar (with two patios!), and Shakewell.

There is a multitude of ways to celebrate and support local businesses now in-person and online. Many local businesses are still hurting and truly need our support to make it past December and beyond. It is fortunate that Lakeshore businesses are delightful and creative, making them fun to support!

When you stroll down Lakeshore, you will find that Urban Indigo has beautiful cards and jewelry, Bay-Made makes locally made gift baskets that delight the senses and carries gorgeous flowers. Find a gem or perfect outfit at Maribel or get into post-Covid shape with Hipline, the Oakland Bar Method or Arise Yoga. Find fun activities for the whole family at Adventure Toys, Silver Moon Kids and Gymboree.

Arizmendi has delicious pizza and baked goods. Gorge on delectable brunch at Lakeshore Cafe or dinner with fine wine or cocktails from Shakewell and Bardo Lounge and Supper Club. Shop Local on Lakeshore Avenue or order (locally) online!

Lakeshore Pride

We could not have a parade this year but PRIDE still happened on Lakeshore Ave!

From amazing meals to fabulous drinks, the resounding message is that the LGBTQ+ community welcome here. We look forward to the parade, parties and joy next year and send out love, acceptance and enjoyment this year.

Prepping for Summer on Lakeshore
